Smoke-Free Smudge — Why We Created It
💨 Smoke-Free Smudge — Why We Created It
Smudging has always been part of our daily lives — a way to clear our minds, reconnect, and welcome positivity.
Traditionally, smudging is done by burning dried medicines like sage, cedar, and sweetgrass. The smoke helps carry our prayer, let go of what feels heavy, and welcome in peace and protection.
The smoke itself is considered medicine. When we move the smoke over ourselves or through our homes, we’re asking for calm, strength, and good thoughts.
It’s not just about the scent; it’s about intention, gratitude, and relationship — acknowledging the plants, the land they come from, and the healing they offer.
Every family and Nation has its own teachings around smudging, but for us it’s a daily act of care — something we do before leaving home, before prayer, or whenever we need to feel centered again. 🌿
But one of our relatives, who loved to smudge every morning, couldn’t handle the smoke anymore — especially while in the hospital.
We wanted to help them keep that connection to the medicine, so we found another way.
That’s how our Liquid Smudge Sprays came to life. We use the same plant medicines, but in a smoke-free form.
The intention is still the same — cleansing, grounding, and bringing good energy back in — just shared in a way that more people can use, even in places where smoke isn’t allowed.
The idea behind it isn’t new, though. In the inípi (sweat lodge), our people have always used heat and steam to release the oils and aroma of the plants.
When the plants are hanged in the sweat, the steam carries their medicine through the air.
It’s a natural form of aromatherapy — something our ancestors understood long before the world started calling it “essential oils.”
So in a way, we’ve been using essential oils for centuries — only now, we bottle them.
Another teaching that inspired our Smudge Balm comes from how we were taught to carry medicine on our bodies.
Before leaving home, or before something important, we might rub a bit of sage or sweetleaf (wild bergamot) on ourselves — a way to keep the medicine with us throughout the day.
It’s a small act of grounding and protection, like wearing your prayer on your skin.
That’s exactly what inspired Smudge Balm: a modern way to continue that same practice, so the calm and clarity of the plants stay with you wherever you go.
Our smoke-free smudge helps keep these traditions alive—and theyve now found their way into places like hospital rooms and classrooms to offices and homes.
Each handmade batch is made with intention and gratitude, honoring the plants that make it possible.
Different form, same spirit. The medicine still moves — through smoke, through steam, through scent, and through touch.
